EPA & DHA Tracer Kinetics in Phospholipids and TAGs
This study undertaken by Aker BioMarine and Pharmaron investigates the systemic kinetics of EPA and DHA in male rats, administered as triglycerides (TAG), phosphatidylcholine (PC), or lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC). The research tracked radiolabelled EPA and DHA in plasma, whole blood, and cumulative radioactivity in expired air, faeces, and urine over time. The findings revealed first-order radiotracer kinetics for both fatty acids, with notable differences in maximum concentration (Cmax) and time to maximum concentration (Tmax) between TAG and PC. LPC exhibited significant differences in area under the curve (AUC), Cmax, Tmax, and total clearance compared to TAG and PC.
